Detection of oil pollution from Landsat - 8
27 February 2024
Oil and petroleum products are currently one of the most common environmental pollutants. In the process of extraction, transportation, refining and use of oil, environmental pollution occurs, where soil and plants experience a particularly strong negative impact. When oil and petroleum products enter the soil, profound and often irreversible changes occur in its morphological, physical, physicochemical properties, and sometimes a significant restructuring of the entire soil profile.
The algorithm for automated detection of oil pollution is carried out by constructing a series of index images, thanks to which it becomes possible to identify oil pollution on the water surface of the study area. Next, a vector map is created with vectorization and filling in attribute information.
