New head of Roscosmos appointed

President Vladimir Putin has replaced the leadership of Roscosmos, according to a decree signed by the head of state on February 6, 2025.

"To dismiss Borisov Yuri Ivanovich from the post of Director General of the State Corporation for Space Activities Roscosmos," the document says. Borisov has been the head of Roscosmos since July 15, 2022.

The president appointed Dmitry Bakanov as the new CEO of the state corporation. The decrees come into force from the moment of signing.

Bakanov has been Deputy Minister of Transport since April 2022, and before that he headed the Port Logistics Company of the Russian Post Group of companies. In 2012-2019, he led the Gonets company, the unified operator of Roscosmos for communication and relay systems. In 2019-2021, he was the head of the Department of Digital Development of the Ministry of Transport.
